UC4 Sprayer Height Controller

“Spring to Fall” Spraying with the flip of a switch!

The UC4 Sprayer Height Control system uses ultrasonic sensors mounted on the left, right and center boom, to automatically maintain a preset height of the entire boom above the ground or crop.

Fast and Reliable
For farm operators and custom applicators, speed can have a major impact on the bottom line. Manual operation of a sprayer in uneven field terrain may require reduced operating speeds for continual boom adjustments. The UC4’s ultrasonic sensors constantly (40 times per second) measure the distance to the ground. This information allows the UC4 system to make responsive height adjustments to allow your booms to automatically follow the contours of the land. The system is so dependable that it can allow an average speed of over 18mph in all kinds of uneven terrain.

More Efficient Use of Chemicals
The UC4 System maintains the booms at an entered preset height. Regulating spray nozzles at the recommended height above ground/crop results in the optimum spray pattern to disperse chemicals evenly and reduce drift.

Take The Stress Out of Spraying
After many hours of moving your head from side to side checking boom height, you can feel completely worn out. The Total Control System frees the operator of the most demanding part of the job. This level of comfort and control makes the operator’s job more efficient and less stressful.

Spray Day or Night
The UC4 ultrasonic sensors have been compared to “eyes” as they monitor changes in the field terrain. These ‘sonar’ devices do not depend on light conditions to measure boom height. Extend working hours well into the night, and take advantage of low wind conditions to spray in any light condition.

Avoid Boom Damage & Down Time
The UC4 control system takes over responsibility for monitoring field contours and making the constant boom adjustments. This allows you to keep your eyes on the job and focused on proper coverage and safety.

Sensor “Smarts”
The UC4 system can be set to read the boom height from the soil surface or from the top of the crop. The ultrasonic signal is “smart” enough to distinguish the ground from standing crop or field residue.

Accurate Smooth Spraying
The NORAC UC4 Control System uses the stepless output of proportional valves to provide a much greater and uniform level of boom control (minimizing boom rocking motion). Proportional valves enable the UC4 system to operate each boom independently. Height corrections are smooth, even, and automatic. . . and so is your spraying.

Intelligent, Durable, Easy-to-Use...

 • Set-up is quick and easy with NORAC’s user friendly programming.
• Automatically maintains a preset height above the ground or crop.
• Displays the height (inches) that the nozzle tips are from the ground.
• Indicates whether the system is in Automatic “A” or Manual “M” modes.
• Communicates hydraulic valve activity.
• Can be manually overridden at any time with boom up/down switches.
• Adjust your spray nozzle height on the go, with the flip of a switch.

Rugged, Reliable Non-Contact Ultrasonic Sensors

• Rugged aluminum sensor design for trouble free use.
• Internal electronics are epoxy sealed making them virtually
impervious to moisture damage.
• Distinguish changes in height to the nearest half inch.
• Monitor the top of the crop or the ground surface.
• The sensor is able to distinguish the ground surface from standing crop or field residue.
• For total boom control, a sensor is mounted on each boom section.
• Breakaway brackets have been designed to provide superior protection to
the sensors; the mounting will bend back approximately 90 degrees.
• High performance sensors provide 40 readings per second to give instant
response.

Custom Hydraulics and Cabling

• A separate proportional valve is used for each boom to ensure smooth
independent hydraulic control.
• Each kit includes custom designed hoses, fittings and cable harnesses to fit
most models of sprayers.
(Although NORAC attempts to supply complete installation kits some modifications may be required due to sprayer manufacturing variations outside of NORAC’s control.)

UC4 Total ControlTM Kits Include:
Sprayer Boom Control Systems are supplied in packages with custom designed cables and hydraulic kits for each model of sprayer.
• Control Panel with mounting bracket.
• Left and Right Wing Ultrasonic Sensors with Breakaway Mounting brackets
• Center Boom Height Sensor With Bracket.
• All required interconnecting cables, hydraulic plumbing & hardware .
• Valve Package (load sensing or closed center models available) and Integral pressure line filter.
• Customized Installation Manual For Each Model of Sprayer and an Operator’s Manual.

Ag Leader and NORAC Partner in Precision Application
Springfield, Ill., July 10, 2007 – This morning, Ag Leader Technology, Inc., a leading
manufacturer of precision farming equipment, and NORAC, Inc., a pioneer in
ultrasonic boom height control for sprayers, announced the introduction of the
InSight™ display interface to the UC5™ Spray Height Controller. This
new technology will allow operators to control boom height and use the
InSight functionality—all in one display.
The new UC5 Spray Height Controller will be interfaced by the InSight
display in the tractor or sprayer cab. The InSight display will support setup,
calibration and run time operation of the UC5. Using a CAN-system
design there is only a single cable connection needed between Ag
Leader and NORAC products.
With the InSight display interface to the UC5 Spray Height Controller
users will be able to monitor and control boom height functions as well
as view an on-screen coverage map and data log. When using the UC5 interface with the InSight DirectCommand™
system, operators will be able to use features such as AutoSwath™, Smart Report™ and rate control along with spray
height control to maximize productivity and reduce operator fatigue. The InSight DirectCommand system also supports
variable rate and multiple product application control.
The UC5 uses ultrasonic sensors to control boom height by monitoring ground surface or crop height, depending
upon crop conditions and operator preference. There are no gauge wheels or feelers, all adjustments are made by
non-contact height control. The UC5 will have added Roll Control™ capabilities on select sprayer models.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers spray height control in conjunction with the InSight display’s mapping
and data logging power,” says Steve Sveum, General Manager of the US Division of NORAC, Inc. “This is something
the application industry has been asking for, and this partnership allows us to respond to those requests.”
“We are very excited about this partnership. Listening to our customers, we realized spray height control was a much
needed addition to our current DirectCommand product offering,” says Ag Leader’s DirectCommand Product Manager,
John Howard. “Both DirectCommand and UC5 have unique individual features, put them together and you have an
unbeatable application system.”
